Songs About The Mountains

Who’s ready for a trip to the mountains? The peacefulness, the flowing streams and beautiful scenery can’t be beat. And one thing’s for sure. There are plenty of songs about the mountains (or songs with mountains in the title) that you’ll have no problem coming up with a mountain-themed playlist. Here are just 10 to start with.

Rocky Mountain High - John Denver

When you think about songs about the Rocky Mountains, this one’s got to be at the top of the list. It’s a classic.

Humbug Mountain Song - Fruit Bats

Sometimes there are songs with mountain in the title that never mention the word in the actual song. This is one of those. It’s a great tune though.

Remember the Mountain Bed - Billy Bragg and Wilco

When Woody Guthrie died in 1967, he left behind hundreds of unheard lyrics. Decades later, Billy Bragg and Wilco put many of those words to music. The result was Mermaid Avenue. Remember the Mountain Bed appears in volume 2.

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

This classic ‘60s pop/soul love song was later performed by Diana Ross, with her version going to number one on the charts.

Rocky Mountain Healin’ - Ray LaMontagne

Another song about the Rocky Mountains, this one from Ray LaMontagne’s 2020 retro throwback-sounding Monovision.

Mountains O’ Things - Tracy Chapman

She may be singing about a different kind of mountain, but Tracy Chapman’s debut album that included this song is one of the best.

The Mtn Song - Rayland Baxter

It’s a great song to begin with, and it’s on an album called Feathers and Fishhooks, so of course it made the list.

Blue Ridge Mountains - Fleet Foxes

A hauntingly beautiful song from the indie folk band Fleet Foxes.

Take Me Home, Country Roads - Toots and the Maytals

Yes, it’s another John Denver tune, but this Toots & the Maytals cover needs to be recognized.

Coming Down the Mountain - Mipso

The archival footage of the Appalachians gives the video a vintage feel, but this mountain song by alternative country/bluegrass band Mipso was just released in 2017.
