How to Draw a Trout with Artist Tim Johnson

Last month, Utah artist Tim Johnson hosted a popular live event on the Orvis Fly Fishing Facebook page in which he taught us how to draw a trout. It was a truly eye-opening lesson that certainly helped me. With an artist’s vision, Tim broke the fish down into its individual parts and explained how to get the proportions correct.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough time to really walk us through the process of coloring the trout we’d drawn. Instead, we simply watched him race through creating a lovely cutthroat. Many folks were inspired and did their own color versions of the trout, some of which you can see below.
